Consider the tree

It takes water from the roots, carbon dioxide from the air, energy from the sun to make sugar and give off oxygen, a process called photosynthesis this involves 70 chemical reactions.

The first reaction depends on light; light from the sun of just the right color and wavelength to be absorbed by the chlorophyll to initiate the process.

Water is drawn up to the very top of the tree and given off by transpiration into the air thereby cooling the tree and the environment.

To form protein for growth, nitrogen needs to be added to the sugars or carbohydrates. Soil organisms turn nitrates in the soil into nitrates solvable in water which travel through the roots to the leaves.

When plants and animals that have used this nitrogen in the proteins die and decompose, the nitrogen is released completing the cycle.

The complexity in this is staggering.
